The classic. The one that started it all.
Four feet of reclaimed Pennsylvania barn wood — open, honest, and built for daily life.
The 48" Mudroom Bench with Coat Hooks is the purest expression of what we make. No doors, no hidden compartments — just beautifully crafted reclaimed wood, antique wrought iron hooks, open cubbies, and a bench to sit on while you put on your shoes. Everything where you can see it. Everything within reach. Everything organized.
Built from 100-year-old Pennsylvania barn wood by a single craftsman — the same wood, the same hands, the same care as our largest 90" Grand. The only difference is scale. This bench fits the smaller mudroom, the apartment foyer, the ski chalet entry with limited wall space, the couple who does not need six feet of storage but wants the same quality and character as those who do.
At $2,599 it is the most accessible piece in our collection. It is not a lesser bench. It is the right bench for a certain space and a certain life — and it will look better in ten years than any mass-market hall tree looks on the day it arrives.
Open, organized, and built for the way you actually live
4 top cubbies — open and organized
Four open cubbies run across the top of the bench — one more than the door version, because with an open design every inch of the top works for you. Hats, helmets, bags, the things that need to be seen and grabbed quickly. Each cubby is the right size for the way a family actually uses a mudroom.
5 wrought iron triple hooks — 15 places to hang
Five antique wrought iron hooks, each with three prongs, are mounted across the full width of the tongue and grooved beadboard back — 15 individual hanging spots for coats, scarves, bags, dog leashes, and everything a household hangs at the door. Five hooks on a 48" bench means they are spaced exactly right — close enough to be useful, far enough apart that coats don’t crowd each other.
4 double cubbies below the bench — shoes and boots, off the floor
Four double-depth cubbies beneath the bench seat keep shoes, boots, and sandals organized and off the floor. Sit down on the bench, reach down, put your shoes on, and leave. That is how a well-designed mudroom works — and it is exactly what this bench makes possible.
The reclaimed barn wood used in every bench we make came from Pennsylvania farm buildings — structures that stood for a hundred years or more before being carefully dismantled. The wood carries the marks of that first life: nail holes, natural variation in grain and color, the texture that only a century of Pennsylvania weather gives a plank of timber.
On an open bench like this one, with no doors to soften the eye, the wood is the whole story. The beadboard back, the bench seat, the side panels — all of it exposed, all of it real, all of it remarkable.
No two benches are identical. The wood determines that.
